Harold, the Richmond Police Department’s horse that got slapped on Saturday night by some drunk guy in Shockoe Bottom, told reporters today that he was still infuriated over the incident and has yet to receive a formal apology from the accused.
The man who hit the horse was later arrested, and caused the only major disturbance during the weekend’s “Shockoe Bottom Shutdown” event.
“A simple, ‘I’m sorry I got jostled and smacked you in the jaw’ would have sufficed, but no, still nothing,'” said the visibly-shaken Thoroughbred, laying in his stall and chewing on a carrot, because that’s what horses do when they’re sad. “We have feelings. [The jerk who smacked me] just got into the paddy wagon without so much as looking at me.”
“Horses are people, too,” he added.
Though physically uninjured, the 6-year-old Equus ferus caballus said he suffered hurt feelings over the incident and has been on a steady diet of hay, grains and Budweiser to make himself feel better.
