Pantele Fixes That Pesky Floorboard With His Council President Gavel

Two days after he struck the gavel at his final City Council meeting while serving as president, William J. Pantele told reporters this morning that he used the same ceremonial mallet to hammer down “that pesky floorboard” at his North Richmond home.

“That stupid thing had been bugging me for weeks,” said the 50-year-old attorney, explaining that the floorboard, located near the rear entrance of his house, required two 4-inch-long nails and “a little bit of elbow grease” while swinging the foot-long blunt instrument, which he typically used to open and close official council meetings.

Pantele said he planned to have the gavel put into a small trophy case that will eventually rest on his mantle, just as soon as he used it to put shoes onto his horse.
