Elitist marathon runner Mathaahi Odadele told reporters this afternoon that he was growing “extremely anxious” about being able to topple a Richmond-area man by at least 57 minutes in tomorrow’s Monument Avenue 10K.
The Kenyan born runner said he hoped to complete the 6.2 miles in less than 29 minutes, which means Short Pump resident and IT consultant Peter Hendrick would have to cross the finish line before the 1 hour and 26 second mark for Odadele to be satisfied with his own performance.
“It will be close, but I remain cautiously optimistic that I can accomplish this,” Odadele said through an interpreter. “He is a formidable opponent to beat in just slightly less than an hour.”
Odadele added that it all comes down to how fast he can get off the starting line, saying he would start getting anxious should he not finish the race before Hendrick can even begin.
